![]() All currently valid EPDs (published by IBU) can be found on the IBU website and in the EPD-Online Tool after you have registered there free of charge. The programme holder, IBU ( Institut für Bauen und Umwelt e.V.), does not have any influence over the EPD results, but only publishes the declarations that have been accepted from the expert committee. The EPD is examined by an ‘Expert Committee’ and then each individual EPD is verified by an independent third party to ensure that the information is objective and accurate. An EPD (environmental product declaration) is a standardized way to quantify the environmental performance of a product, process or system and to report on. Once this is completed and checked, the EPD is created. The PCR also acts to regulate the test procedures and LCA methodology. If there is already a PCR document for the relevant product group, this stage will not be necessary.Īt this point, the manufacturer provides all the information required for the PCR document together with evidence of the tests completed. This will be checked for consistency between the experts and manufacturers to ensure it meets all requirements. Simultaneously, the public and any other interested parties will be informed and asked for input which will be incorporated into the initial draft. EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a voluntary product certification scheme focusing on the environmental performances for a product, a process or a. The product is defined and the typical environmental impacts expected are identified. For the French market, so-called FDES documents (Fiche de Déclaration Environnementale et Sanitaire = Environmental and Health Declaration) are also being prepared.Ī forum of experts and manufacturers for a specific product group is set up and a draft document for the PCR (Product Category Rules) is prepared. Therefore, numerous expert opinions based on LCA data have been carried out across the industry on the impact of different raw materials, production processes and methods of disposal. The set-up and creation of an EPD is standardised. GUT has been responsible for the development of EPDs for over 10 years and, to date, more than 350 product specific EPDs have been published. An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a document containing the environmental impact of a product. The EPDs can be used by planners, architects, construction companies, building owners and other experts to assess the sustainability of buildings. By using the IBU format, the EPDs comply with future EU standards and are valid throughout the EU. Each EPD is based on the same harmonised PCR information therefore the environmental impacts of each product is transparent, independent, understandable and comparable. Because data specific to EFCA members has been used for the underpinning life cycle analysis for the EPD, the EFCA Model EPD do not apply to companies that are not members of the EFCA National Associations. As well as generic EPDs of ‘typical’ types of textile floor coverings, GUT also prepares product-specific EPDs for individual manufacturers. ![]() This means that using this data is conservative but reliably reflects actual products.ĮFCA National association company members have contributed data to this process and can declare through an agreed calculation method that the EFCA EPD are applicable to their individual products. Environmental product declarations form the data basis for the ecological building assessment in compliance with DIN EN 15978 Sustainability of structures. The term ‘Model’ EPD refers to the choice to publish data that refers to the highest impact versions of each admixture type across the EFCA member countries products. The EPD are available for free download on the Publications page.ĮPD enable producers of construction materials to carry out ‘Life Cycle Analysis and Assessment’ on new structures. In October 2016 the EPDs were also confirmed as verified by ECO PLATFORM. These have been independently verified by the respected German ECO-Platform programme holder Instut Bauen und Umvelt e.V. (IBU). Since the publication of common guidance for EPD in the form of EN 15804 (ref) in 2012 EFCA has worked in close cooperation with Deutsche Bauchemie to convert these to Model European EPD in conformance with both EN 15804 and ISO 14025. Since 2005 EFCA has published a series of EPD covering Plasticising and Superplasticising admixtures, Accelerators, Retarders, Air Entrainers and Waterproofers. Environmental Product Declarations for AdmixturesĮnvironmental Product Declarations (EPD) are important tools for providing admixture users with key information with regard to the potential impacts of materials.
